A Treat from Edward Weston...

...followed by a little something of my own.

My aunt Anne Barlow Nygren, a former dancer, and her husband Jim got this photograph sometime in the 1950s, I expect. The photograph itself is unsigned, but it is glued to a sheet of paper on which Edward Weston signed his name. One the back are the words "Point Lobos." Aunt Ann gave me the photo when she left New York for San Antonio nearly twenty years ago. It remains one of my prized possessions:



Below is an image of the mosque at Djenne in Mali, the largest mud mosque in the world. I took it in 1986, printing and hand-coloring it in 1987 or 1988. In the middle on the right is a Koranic school, probably not that different from what have become the madrassas of today:
